Convection Currents

Convection Currents at work!
This demonstration is a good model to show how convection currents are happening in the mantle.  As thermal energy from the inner and outer core heats up the semi-liquid mantle, the hotter - less dense, material rises.  As it moves away from the core, it cools - becoming more dense, and sinks.

Think about what happens in a lava lamp!!
